Hosna Parsa/Teheran, Theo Nabicht/Berlin – Deutschlandpremiere

A long tube made of rosewood and a spherical chamber of walnut, a s-bow and a spike, the lowest instrument in the clarinet family and a stringed bowed instrument of Iranian music: the contrabass clarinet is a relatively young instrument, whereas Kamancheh represents a much older musical tradition. The former was developed in nineteenth-century France, the latter can be found in many countries of the SWANA region (Southwest Asia and North Africa). Both kamancheh and contrabass clarinet are played as a solo instrument or in an ensemble, but they have never met before. Together, Hosna Parsa from Tehran and Theo Nabicht from Berlin explore ways through contemporary styles of playing, exchange ideas about, and experiment with idiosyncratic and characteristic sounds and share, how each of them has acquired musical knowledge.
Hosna Parsa performs for the first time in Germany, the evening is presented by "Klangteppich. Concert series for music of the Iranian diaspora".
Funded by Musikfonds e.V. by means of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
