Tania Giannouli Trio

The Greek (film) composer and pianist Tania Giannouli (*1977) from Athens has released eight albums during her career, spanning a remarkable range of operation. In 2012, she made her debut with the New Zealand label Rattle Records, where she recorded a duo with Portuguese saxophonist Paulo Chagas. Her international breakthrough came with the album “Transcendence”, an exquisite chamber music quintet. The most recent album “Rewa” also made quite a stir: fully improvised music featuring New Zealand Maori musician Rob Thorne and Steve Garden’s subtle electronic beats.

In her Berlin-debut, Tania Giannouli will be performing with a brand-new trio in an unusual orchestration: piano, trumpet and oud – a Byzantine-inspired, thoroughly occidental-oriental sound constellation that brings out the oscillations of the music’s temperature and temperament. Andreas Polyzogopoulos (1981), currently Greece's leading jazz trumpeter, forms the link between Giannouli and oudist Kyriakos Tapakis (1977), also known for his work with lyricist Sokratis Sinopoulos and bassist Dine Doneff (both ECM).
